Thank you to everybody on the pool board and in the community (who AREN'T Negative Nellies or Naysayers) for your faith, hard work, commitment and dedication to the pool project. It's rather amazing to me, though, all of the resistance and bad mouthing that comes about when a group of hard working people attempt to do something nice for the community. I swear there are people out there to whom you could walk up and give a million dollars and these same folks would complain because you didn't give them two million. Unfortunately, the world is full of malcontents and skeptics and Coos County is no different. Again, thank you all for being positive and staying the course. Can't wait to swim in the new pool!
How long has money been being collected for this project over all?
The Bandon Community Swimming Pool Development Corporation has been collecting funds since 2006!
How long has this fundraising been going on all together?
Organizations to build a pool have popped up and disbanded since the Natatorium, a heated salt-water pool, burned to the ground during the 1936 fire.
Where would the location be?
The property we own is off Jackson Rd. and behind the Softball Field and Skateslab in City Park. There is a total of ten acres, some of which must be liquidated. However the city has a law on the books that we must develop the lot before we split it for sale. This infrastructure will cost upwards of a million dollars and is a terrible and unexpected blow to the project.
The concept of locating the proposed swimming pool on property in Bandon City Park was the topic of a work session at the Planning Commission in late January. At that meeting, several people spoke in support of the idea, while others, including Mayor Mary Schamehorn, said that while the City Council...
I am so impressed with all the responses on this Facebook Site since somebody 55 years younger than me has been monitoring it. It looks like some folks are still concerned about our money.
We have figures since 2005 when the non-profit was formed. We do know that previously some funds were given to bus summer school students to the Coquille Pool. Those were used and disbursed by the City of Bandon.
Look at this week's Western World, out Wed afternoon and out all week. Also online under theworldlink.com
We now have around $200,000 in the bank and over $200,000 invested in the 10 acres of land bordering city park, off Jackson Rd.
History is on our website. It shows how much folks in our area want an Aquatic Center. Our weather demands indoor exercise and we need water safe kids and adults, good competition, health and recreation. We have brochures available many places. Our meetings are 2nd Tues of each month at the Bandon Library. We also cover Langlois, Coquille (they want Aquatic Center, not just "pool") We have a feasibility study and budget online. We know we can support our AC with fees of $40.00 per month from 500 people, plus families, lessons, Silver Sneakers, Private teams, donations, the list goes on. The Bay Area Athletic Center in Empire has been going for over 30 years. The bulk of our income has come from grants. The bulk of our expenses has been professional fees ($72,000 for property the school district promised but did not give) taxes on our own property, insurance on property and on Board members (they HAVE to be honest), upkeep of our own property, attorney fees (so we ARE honest), publicity, fundraisers. Please check the Western World for more exact figures.
Join the LOOP. We'll post more news there. Come to meetings, COME TO OUR FUNDRAISER APRIL 14 AT THE BARN!!!
