North Bend pool closed for 2 weeks ,May 1 thru 13. Missing my 2-3 times a week aquatic workout and friends at the pool. Went to Mingus to swim May 1 st., pool schedule mostly for school kids, either learning to swim or swim practice for area school competitions. 20 kids siitting on edge of pool , listening to instructor who was comfortably fully emmersed into the 86 degree water. Kids were alternately held into pool for instruction , then placed back on deck. I am very happy to see kids learning swimming, but this environment, most days is uncomfortable and not that healthy for kids to sit on deck that long in cold weather. Could adults nearby put towels on kids back between getting into and out of pool? More expensive , but not in long run , could Mingus pool be covered and well ventilated?
Please come to our public meeting on the Second Tuesday of the Month at 10:30 at the Bandon Library. This meeting is for the sharing ideas, expertise and current updates. We desire every member of the community, and those outside of the community too, to attend.

Thank you to everybody on the pool board and in the community (who AREN'T Negative Nellies or Naysayers) for your faith, hard work, commitment and dedication to the pool project. It's rather amazing to me, though, all of the resistance and bad mouthing that comes about when a group of hard working people attempt to do something nice for the community. I swear there are people out there to whom you could walk up and give a million dollars and these same folks would complain because you didn't give them two million. Unfortunately, the world is full of malcontents and skeptics and Coos County is no different. Again, thank you all for being positive and staying the course. Can't wait to swim in the new pool!
How long has money been being collected for this project over all?
The Bandon Community Swimming Pool Development Corporation has been collecting funds since 2006!
How long has this fundraising been going on all together?
Organizations to build a pool have popped up and disbanded since the Natatorium, a heated salt-water pool, burned to the ground during the 1936 fire.
Where would the location be?
The property we own is off Jackson Rd. and behind the Softball Field and Skateslab in City Park. There is a total of ten acres, some of which must be liquidated. However the city has a law on the books that we must develop the lot before we split it for sale. This infrastructure will cost upwards of a million dollars and is a terrible and unexpected blow to the project.
