Statement from Perk Development on the Community Benefit Parcel
We are gathering input from community members to help guide our planning. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete our brief survey about your interest and how you would use the pool. Click here to complete.
The board is looking to maximize earnings on the community’s funds. Up to now, our investments have been limited to FDIC insured CDs. We have voted to diversify our investments to increase returns while limiting our risk. We are utilizing the expertise of the local Edward Jones office. Click here to see our investment policy statement.
To lay the foundation to pursue partnerships and fundraising the board recognized the need to update our 2016 feasibility study to reflect rising costs and the changes in Bandon and the surrounding areas. The original consulting company, TSE, was no longer in business. We approached a new company and were quoted a price of $26,000. Rather then spend those funds, the board voted to volunteer their own time to research and update the study. After approximately 241 hours of board members time, we have an updated study. The new study can be found here.
This board works well together–fluid in accomplishing and assigning tasks, and acknowledging the specific strengths and skills of our members.
We have two current priorities: First, find a suitable location for the pool. We want to work with local entities, landowners, the city, the school district and the county to accomplish this as soon as possible. Secondly, begin phase 1 of our capital campaign. We have the outline for the complete campaign available if you would like to see it.
We encourage you to let us know if you want to contribute your skills, time or resources to building our pool. We currently still have board positions of Social Media Liaison and a Director at Large position available. We will have ad hoc committees such as grant writers, capital campaign, festivals as the need arises.
We will build a pool. We will continue to move forward with tasks accomplished simultaneously so our momentum is steady and strong. We will come together as a community working towards our common goal: The Bandon Pool.
Thank you,
Helen Slack Miller
We are 2 weeks away from our annual meeting and are looking for a volunteer to fill one of these positions (we have one volunteer who is qualified and willing to serve as either)
Treasurer or Social Media Liaison
We also have one more opening for Director at Large.
If you are interested in working towards building a pool in Bandon, please email bandonpool@gmail.com Position descriptions and board responsibilities can be found here.
On Tuesday, January 30, board members Sally Smith-Weymouth and Nalia Brewster presented at the Warehouse as part of the community talks series. Thanks to all who attended! There are a lot of positive things going on with the pool right now.
However, we need committed volunteers to take this momentum and turn it into the reality of a community swimming pool. Our board elections will be held in May, but now would be a great time time to jump in and help us keep the ball rolling. Board meetings are the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, 4pm, second floor of the Rogue Credit Union building at 1010 SE First St. If you have questions, drop bandonpool@gmail.com an email.
The board has begun talks with Perk Development regarding a partnership that would allow the board to construct a pool on Perk land as part of their workforce housing project. There are still a lot of details to iron out about the partnership and pool location but we are excited about the prospects. We will post updates here and on our Facebook page as we have them.
Please join us, Tuesday, July 11 at 6:30pm in the Sprague Community Room at the Bandon Library to discuss the current status of the pool and find out how you can help make the dream of an Aquatic Center in town a reality.
