This board works well together–fluid in accomplishing and assigning tasks, and acknowledging the specific strengths and skills of our members.

We have two current priorities: First, find a suitable location for the pool. We want to work with local entities, landowners, the city, the school district and the county to accomplish this as soon as possible. Secondly, begin phase 1 of our capital campaign. We have the outline for the complete campaign available if you would like to see it.

We encourage you to let us know if you want to contribute your skills, time or resources to building our pool. We currently still have board positions of Social Media Liaison and a Director at Large position available. We will have ad hoc committees such as grant writers, capital campaign, festivals as the need arises.

We will build a pool. We will continue to move forward with tasks accomplished simultaneously so our momentum is steady and strong. We will come together as a community working towards our common goal: The Bandon Pool.

Thank you,

Helen Slack Miller

There are a lot of positive things going on with the pool right now.

  • We have a healthy bank account
  • We approached Perk Development with the idea of forming a partnership. As a result of our meetings, they have added a pool to their Gravel Point workforce housing master plan. It is still preliminary, but, allowing the pool on their land and building the major portion of the road to it is a huge step forward.
  • We have an opportunity to work with a professional grant writer to help us raise funds.

However, we need committed volunteers to take this momentum and turn it into the reality of a community swimming pool. Our board elections will be held in May, but now would be a great time time to jump in and help us keep the ball rolling. Board meetings are the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, 4pm, second floor of the Rogue Credit Union building at 1010 SE First St. If you have questions, drop bandonpool@gmail.com an email.

The board has begun talks with Perk Development regarding a partnership that would allow the board to construct a pool on Perk land as part of their workforce housing project. There are still a lot of details to iron out about the partnership and pool location but we are excited about the prospects. We will post updates here and on our Facebook page as we have them.

In 2014, the Board purchased 10 acres adjacent to the city park with the idea that the land would eventually be annexed into the park. In 2018, it became apparent that this was not going to be an option. The land was zoned for residential use, and without annexation, would have to be partitioned and rezoned in order to build the pool. Partitioning was explored, but, due to infrastructure requirements would have been a costly option. Application for re-zoning would also have been a long process with no guarantee of success.

In 2021 owners of the lots adjacent to the pool approached the board with the idea of offering a 30 acre parcel for sale rather than three 10 acre parcels. Because of the obstacles to building on the site, the board agreed, and the property was listed for sale in March of 2021. We received an offer in the fall of 2021 with an original close date of February 26, 2022. The buyer required some additional analysis prior to closing and ended up extending the closing date by 30 days, resulting in forfeiture of $5000 in earnest money to the pool. On March 31, the sale closed with a price of $433,397.95. Overall the profit was $178,317.67. The Board is exploring other options within the community for the pool building.
